Arkansas Democratic Chairman Bill Gwatney was shot and killed earlier today when a man made his way inside of the Arkansas Democratic Chairman headquaters and opened fire before fleeing in his pick up truck. Police do not know the motive behind the 51-year-old’s shooting spree but witnesses say that he complained about losing his job moments after the attack while pointing a handgun at the building manager nearby at the Arkansas Baptist headquarters.
The 48-year-old chairman died four hours later after the shooting. He had plans to travel to the Democratic Convention this month as a Hillary Clinton superdelegate.
Hillary Clinton and her husband former president Bill Clinton issued a statement about Gwatney saying that he was “not only a strong chairman of Arkansas’ Democratic Party, but he is also a cherished friend and confidante.”
